New Year cinq-à-sept

Come and join us in an early evening drink and chat. Whether it is to complain about the weather, discuss the latest ramifications on BREXIT, celebrate what Santa delivered (or didn't deliver) during the holiday season or just chill out, this is the event to do it.

We will have a number of "elevator pitches" by members just to help everyone to get to know each other.

The Lord William Pub has Happy Hour prices on selected domestic beers, wines and even spirits - all at just $5.00. Since they only have a restaurant licence, they will be serving some nibbles but will add a nominal 99 cents to individual bills.

Please bring your friends and potential new members of BQBC. Please remember that, anyone joining BQBC from now until end of our financial year (June 30th), gets complimentary membership for 2017-8.

Great Britain and Ireland have traditionally shared a strong commercial and cultural relationship. Indeed, free passage of people has long been part of this association. Free passage between the two countries has been strongly symbolic of mutual trust and understanding.

So, what happens Post-Brexit? What are the hopes and fears of the Irish? Will borders tighten? Will Ireland be expected to pay more into the EU coffers? Will Britain re-establish its former links with the Commonwealth countries and will Ireland want to join this group? Will there be an IREXIT? These are just a few questions that a Post-Brexit relationship might unfold.

The BQBC is pleased to invite you to its next Business Breakfast entitled: BREXIT: AN IRISH PERSPECTIVE. At this session, organized in partnership with the Irish Government in Ottawa, Ambassador of Ireland to Canada, Jim Kelly, will address members and friends of BQBC, including members of ICCC.

Spring cinq-à-sept

Many of you commented that you enjoyed the elevator pitch evening that we did in January. Not only did it help to let members know what their colleagues do, it also helped with the over all level of networking. We should all practice our elevator pitches -how often are we found in the situation where the potential client is right in-front of us and we are suddenly tongue-tied?

There is the place for 4 pitches - please contact John Lawson direct if you would like to take one of the slots.

The event is free but spaces are limited. Non-members are welcome but preference will be given to members/ It is important, therefore, to register through this site.

The British Quebec Business Coalition welcomes

Few people predicted that the people of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland would vote to leave the European Union on 23rd June 2016 - but they did! At the time Greece was facing an austerity programme that was being imposed by the EU and GREXIT was almost seen as inevitable - but was avoided.

What now?

We heard from Jim Kelly, the Irish Ambassador to Canada, that an influx of refugees and other migrants had not been an issue on their side of Europe but that is not the case for Greece. It has been at the forefront of this activity.

Mr Sigalas has kindly agreed to put this perspective to our members and friends.

FIS Annual Summer Party

The Federation of Irish Societies has invited members and friends of BQBC to their Annual Summer Party.

There is no charge and no need to register - just turn up and enjoy the fellowship!
